We saw the doctor again today to finalise ‘the delivery plan’. I’ve been on a real rollercoaster over the last few months thinking about how our little person is going to arrive. Our private consultant had already strongly recommended a C-section which threw me, and at the end of March, the Dr at the hospital also recommended it. It really upset me for some reason. I think it was because every time the subject was broached it got me thinking about the early menopause, the egg donation and how unfair it all is. And after all that, even though the pregnancy was progressing well, I couldn’t even have a natural birth! I know it’s got to do with my age but shouldn’t how fit or healthy for your age come into it as well?? Maybe it’s all the pregnancy hormones making me overreact to this. I do seem to be able to cry at the drop of a hat at the moment! Then in May a lovely midwife at my next appointment told me I wasn’t old and because everything was going well I should consider an induction to stop me going over 40weeks (which is definitely not recommended because of my age) and then a C-section afterwards if things don’t work, which made me feel a bit better about it all. Then another midwife appointment at the end of May, and another opinion – this time she said a C-section was probably best. I had started to feel a bit better about this option by now. It is what it is and if that’s the way I had to deliver our baby then that’s the way it had to be. So then when we saw the consultant at the beginning of June, I’d convinced myself that if a C-section was the best option then that’s what we’d go for…. But she then said it probably wasn’t necessary as the pregnancy has gone well so far?!?! We still had time to decide but by now my head was spinning. So, it is with GREAT relief today that we came up with a plan with the doctor. And it doesn’t involve a C-section (unless of course it becomes necessary). I’ll have 2 sweeps the week before the due date, then start induction 3 days before the due date if nothing’s happened. Phew!! It has just got very real now though! S#@!#
